A move has a lot of moving parts, and the move-out clean always comes last – once everything else is meant to be done. This checklist helps you keep track of what needs doing before, during and after the clean, whether you clean it yourself or hire us.
Before the move-out clean
Book the cleaning early – demand is highest around the turn of the month, so secure your slot as soon as the moving date is set.
Empty the home completely. Move-out cleaning is done in an empty home – furniture and boxes need to be out.
Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer in good time, and leave the doors ajar.
Cancel or transfer your electricity and broadband contracts so there's still power on cleaning day.
Check what your landlord or housing cooperative requires – some have their own checklists for the inspection.
During the clean – room by room
Kitchen: cabinets and drawers inside and out, appliances inside and out as well as behind and underneath, hob, extractor fan and sink.
Bathroom: descale tiles and taps, clean the toilet, shower or bathtub, floor drain and ventilation vents.
All rooms: clean windows, wipe skirting boards, radiators, doors and door frames, clean wardrobes inside and out, vacuum and wet-mop floors.
Don't forget storage rooms, the balcony and any other spaces that belong to the home.
After the clean
Go through the home one last time with the checklist in hand before the inspection.
Be present at the inspection if you can – then any remarks can be sorted out on the spot.
Read the electricity meter and document the home's condition with a few photos before you hand over the keys.
